It was like the entire Irish community of New York came out to see this new band named U2. The spirit of brotherhood and pride was felt for their countrymen from across the sea.
Bono was dancing, strutting and taking complete control of the stage. The Edge would step forward to strum, rock and pitch his guitar towards the audience. Their music put the audience into a frenzy without a fight or a punch being thrown. The sea of heads would sway and bob in unison as Bono held court.
For their first New York appearance (at The Ritz Nightclub) the band opened and closed the show with "I Will Follow". The set would take you up and down like a roller coaster and left you ready to drop after the last chorus of "I Will Follow". I recall standing on a balcony once and feeling like it was going to collapse because of all the weight jumping up and down.
