The first time I saw this band was in Costa Mesa, California where they had a manager named Charlie Brown. They opened for Psychedelic Furs.
The guys were just out having fun and it showed in their warm smiles and loose playing styles. Perry Farell's stage attire consisted of long johns with boxer shorts worn over them and a corset to top it off, not forgetting the wire curlers to keep his dreads in place. He was a showman back then, and never ceased to amaze a live audience, as at the second Woodstock with the Bloody Clown routine.
Let's go back to Costa Mesa, after the show, where Janes Addiction proved to be a headlining act. The band was all laughs and giggles out in the parking lot. It was just too hot of a day to be inside a dressing room. Perry passed out tee shirts he personally designed and painted that I still wear with pride. He also gave out their first record on XXX Records, which is a collector's item for Jane's Addiction fans.
